Le Pelat, gascony

The track to Chateau Pelat which you arrive at from the outskirts of the large village of Jegun, Gers reveals glimpses of an ancient compound - a gate tower connected to a stone enclosure - the stone main house beyond, a circular tower attached. As you approach following the track around to the right of the buildings under the canopy of trees which border the route you arrive at the back of the house with an expanse of lawn to your right sloping gently towards more trees and beyond that the grassy route down to the vineyards. It is absolutely charming.

These photographs were taken during two visits. One at the beginning and one at the end of September. Even with the summer’s fields of golden wheat and drooping sunflowers since past Pelat continues to be inviting as you wander around across its lawn and take the steps down to the pool area. A long table with benches above which an old vine grows across the pergola sit slightly above the pool terrace. From here you view between trees the curve of hills for which this part of Gascony is famous. Tucked away a short walk from the pool and beyond two lines of trees you will find a tennis court. It might be difficult to concentrate on your game when the view is so distracting.

The interior of the house with its thick stone walls creates a very pleasing refuge against a strong midday sun. Decorated in a style which compliments the architecture whilst at the same time is comfortable and homely - a perfect holiday refuge.

The first floor access to which is via a spiral stone staircase give the impression of being from a different house as here all is light from the grand windows, white walls & wooden floors. Each bedroom is simply yet beautifully decorated - a sense of harmony throughout.
